Himeka
Profile:
Born in French Quebec and raised by her French mother, Himeka grew up exposed to both American and European culture. Ever since she was a little girl she was interested in music and art, an interest she continued to develop through her teen years.
When she was 12 years old, her parents took her to Disney Land in America, and Himeka fell in love with the Disney movies. From then on she started to study the English language so she could understand them better. At the age of 13 she began writing her own fantasy stories focused around a character named “Himeka”.
When she was 15, she watched a broadcast of “Bishoujo Tenshi Sailormoon” on television, and even though she had always loved her Disney Princesses she was immediately drawn to the Japanese style animation and story. A year later she borrowed a Japanese Dictionary from her friends and started memorizing the Hiragana and Katakana so she could read her Sailormoon cards. At the same time she practiced singing the songs from “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” in Japanese. She also purchased the “Fushigi Yuugi” animation Character CDs, and taught herself how to pronounce Japanese words by watching the animation DVDs with Japanese subtitles.
Her interest in Japanese Animation, Music, and culture continued to grow, and eventually she knew that she wanted to make a career out of singing Anime songs.
In march of 2008, while staying in Japan through a Work Visa, she entered into the “2nd Annual Japanese Anime Song Grand Prix”, hosted by Animax entertainment. The competition was held in five major cities, featuring over three thousand contestants. The final tournament was held at the JCB Hall in September, and Himeka won the grand prize, blowing away the judges with her performance.
On May 27th 2009, Himeka will debut in Japan with her first single “Asu he no kizuna”, the theme song for the “Senjou no Valkyrie” animation, produced by Sukima Switch’s Tokita Shintarou.
